Work it!

Drum roll please! What else would be appropriate for my last post of the year than a look at my completed office space. Where I occasionally work from home for my paid job. But mostly the space where I get inspired and create. Everything from simple tasks such as repairing broken toys and sewing (kids means forever mending). Those supplies are kept in the pink geometric boxes. To wrapping gifts, which I love doing, and whose supplies are kept in the glass vase and bamboo boxes. But most important is the computer nestled on a felt mat which is not only soft and warm on my RSI wrists but protects the desk from my crafting attempts. I absolutely adore sniffing around online, looking for and admiring all the wonderful creations and subsequently getting inspired and writing about these inspirations.

The space is a mix of things I already had, again being put to use, such as the desk, chair, Componibili, lamp, large glass vase with gift wrapping paper and an inspirational shopping bag for paper recycling. Things that were already in the space such as the Ikea and built-in storage unit which received a sprucing and are no longer packed to the gills. Decorative items from other spots around the house or straight out of storage including all the black and white vases, bamboo boxes, inspirational stones from a trip to Copenhagen, candle holder, textile stamps, purple Muuto dots, depth vase bowl, mug, plate and necklace created by my daughter.

Things I sourced eons earlier specidically for the space including the geometric boxes, mustard storage caddy, black Hay scissors, voodoo note holder, limited edition print and wooden navelsAnd a few finishing pieces including my kicking ruler, crackie washi tape holder, striped archive map to hold inspirational bits torn from magazines.
I am thinking of hanging a sign from the dots. Something fierce as the space is such an reflection of me that I feel truly in my element and that makes me feel bitching, bad ass or however you wish to phrase confidence in once self.

Sliding into home

I could not resist showing you the indoor slide I got Zoe Isobel and Mika for Christmas. Great for me, because I am not, sorry to say, an outdoors or even playground type. Especially not when it is freezing and windy. Plus this slide aptly slides right under the sofa when done or at nighttime so I can have at least part of my living room back. Most importantly though, the kids love it! Not just for sliding but for moon walking, running and speed racing cars. The slide is a great success with their friends and cousins as well. I mean, even I could not resist a go.

The slide shipped quickly (I am a late orderer) and my info request was answered within a few hours. All in all a great buy! You can find it here.

My Christmas décor

Sorry Sinterklaas, but I am and will remain a Christmas girl pur sang. I look forward to eating turkey, watching sappy Christmas movies while stuffing my face with sweets & snacks, watching my kids tear into the gifts and being grateful to have my own little chicks to share the magic just as I did when I was little and forever since.

But before this, comes the breaking out of the trusty CD of classic Christmas songs sung the traditional, non-overly elaborate & drawn-out way (you know who I am talking about). Down come the boxes from the attic and out come the lights and ornaments. There is the happy Christmas stress of me sending silent beams of positive, frightful energy as my three and one year old are fascinated by the delicate glass balls, especially  as Mika’s greatness joy is throwing round or any other shaped objects into space, despite gravity and having a tiled floor. That sly smile when I say “don’t touch those” says "this ain’t over yet, mom".

To the store-bought decorations I have been adding more homemade ones as my kids get older. I decorated their chalkboard, the windows got snowed, and I made an advent calendar from washi-tape and kids crafting paper (did you spot the neon bows on the gifts?) and made decorations with my little crafter from clay, which I spray-painted silver. Only about a third made it to the wall, but she thinks they look great and so do I.
Next on the list are loads of popcorn strings but only when I can trust my little monsters won’t eat the tree empty and preferably when I can get some help treading those suckers onto string.

Pretty in prints & textures

I mentioned in an earlier post that my style is evolving. Actually now that I think of it turning 30 did end up being a milestone that marks changes in my person which are reflected in my style. A style that is not only edgier and more sculpted but also more fun. Life is just too short, to feel serious, boring and bland, no? While I have rediscovered why ‘black is and will remain the new black’ and retain a love of bold, uninterrupted blocks of color, where my eye has been gravitating to..
is Print, especially in combination with Texture. Not prints as in paisley, plaid or check but prints as in calf hair, leopard and crocodile. Not that these are new, but only now do I appreciate them. One of my favorite shoes will probably remain a pair of black and white calf hair peep toes I bought years ago in the US. They inject a bit of humor into the most straight-laced of work outfits without saying crazy lady (I hope).
A modernized flower print does the trick for my more girly moments. Plus I recently saw thispair of marble-inspired jeans that blew my mind. How frigging fun and unpretentious to look like a slab of marble, kitchen counter or cheeseboard. Here are a few items I would not mind updating my black and bold-colored closet with.

Christmas stocking for the home

I could not resist a post about Christmas gifts. This time though it focuses on smaller gifts, that are handy for the household. Let’s call them home stocking stuffers as you can make or buy a stocking as large as you like, e.g. this one from By Nord. In this stocking you will find gifts that are useful, functional but still oh, so well designed.

1. Brass bag clips, these just might make it OK to leave bagged goods on the counter. 2. The floor to ceiling radiator in the kitchen holds kids art, notes and reminders, making a writing instrument there extra handy. In steps.. the magnetic pencil. 3. What with work, kids, sport and life in general, a family planner is a necessity, so why not make it cute? 4. After several attempts at finding good-looking and durable containers for bathroom paraphernalia I think this Seletti submarine might be the one. 5. The free dispenser that came with the scotch tape is now completely broken and so fugly, it hides behind the other office supplies. Not after a concrete upgrade, it won’t.

Product love; Alessi Il tempo della festa

I bake a lot of cake, especially individual sized ones since gaining two miniature mouths in my household. But I have to say I am bored to tears of the same old round shape...

In steps these timbale moulds from Alessi. And what better time to pull out the stops and step it up than the holiday season. Fun, interesting, minimal beauties. Thing I never thought I would like about a cake mould but thankfully now can. They come in several colors and while the black are stunning, I would probably go for snowy white.

Dream scent

I kind of hate to agree but you do get a bit more rigid in your choices or maybe better phrased you make more grounded ones with a bit more experience. And so it is that I have my own signature scents and no I don’t mean BO. I mean perfume, which I wear pretty much every single time I leave the house. Of course they are new scents that catch my eye and entertain my fancy and I still want to try and find one for next spring that is as light and fresh as a cloud seems, but this is my basic stock inventory.
J’adore which I have been wearing since graduation (crap, that’s almost a decade ago). Gucci Rush, bought on vacation a couple summers back and whose headiness is good for warmer spheres. Noa Cacharel, my go-to for girly lightness. And my youngest and personal favorite is Love Chloé, perfect for daily use and which seems to typify my wishes best with its classic minimal design getting a bit of edge with the fragile golden chain attached between the cap and bottle.
These are my favorites. What’s your dream scent?

The Christmas wrap up

Sugar & spice. And everything nice. The Christmas cards are obviously the spice, habanero pepper style and now comes the sugar with the wrapping of the gifts. Don't get me wrong as I don't mean dentist visit needed sweet or traditional red and gold, as that is just not my type of sweet. I mean cute, fun and fresh wrapping paper, bows, garlands and the like. Here are a few that I think are totally wicked!!

1. Paper star wrapping paper from Bl-ij for my kids gifts. 2. Silver sequins from Inkkit would look stunning under a transparent layer of wrap. 3. Love the graphic double sided papers from EvaenAnne. 4. To tie it al up a beautiful garland from Raumundlicht.

Atelier DMontreal

I have shown you a few of the special bits and bobs I have in my office space. Being a practical space means being filled with useful, everyday items. Luckily useful things can be cute, like the minimalist black ruler sitting on my desk. Such a practical little item, yet not made from ugly white plastic with printed numbers that fade in no time flat or with some ugly logo.

The ruler I ordered from Atelier DMontreal, where I fell in love with the lattice paper tray (check here for the full product line). I love wooden products and try to look for the thought-out even in everyday items. I mean how good are those lamps? I think this small brand does a great job of making the useful beautiful yet retaining or better yet adding value with the little details like the loophole on the ruler. You know what they say; the devil is in the detail.

Rude Christmas snail mail

The holiday season is officially here. Time to break out the elasticated waistband pants and fugly Christmas sweaters. Seriously, I plan on purchasing my first Christmas sweater and have one in mind for each member of the family to rock during a photo shoot for next year's card.

But for this year's card I can't help feeling more naughty than nice as the cards that keep catching my attention are the funny and rude ones as these match my humor. Don't feel offended if such a card hits your mailbox, it just means I like you enough to send you a real card, but not enough to make it cute. Nah, just the first part applies.

Fancy seeing you here

 Sweet perversion

Quick pic, my space

I'm usually very gung ho about getting things done. Kind of a mantra of mine is Get (sh)it done! However this does not seem to apply to my space, as there are still one or two things left. But I still wanted to share a quick peek at the desk. Recognize anything I posted about?
