Mon mode d'hiver

I mentioned working on a fall/winter wardrobe. No so much because of the weather change because I still wear mini’s and pumps on snow days and throwing a blazer over a strappy top means I’m good to go. The reason is mostly fit. I know me and too large just doesn’t work for me, except in coats. So now that there is more room in my clothes, the more lumpy I look and that is not the look I’m going for! So everything that does not fit or that for some other reason is not flattering, will be moving to the B-section. I hate the sorting. Too soon after moving. But that makes the replenishing all the more sweet. Key words; streamlined, tailored and fitted. Bringing sexy back!
Here is the start of my fall wardrobe. Not exactly the typical fluffy sweaters and thick coats of winter but there is time and I already have some favourites on that front to show you soon. This is the start of the wardrobe that makes me happy and fits me to a T, body and personality wise.













  1. Starting with the pieces from the H&M Studio Fall/Winter 2014 collection; the sweater with zips. I love zips and since there are so many it was enough for me to get over my dislike of high necks. Switch it up, zip it up.
  2. A dress of course, because I’m a dress girl. A simple LBD from the front but a dipped low-back because back decolletage is where it’s at! For me with a little leather cord because I need a defined waist and that’s what fashion is, making it yours.
  3. Impractical but my absolute favourite piece from H&M Studio; a cropped mesh top. Though calling it a top is a push. This, I think, is my symbol piece because it’s takes body confidence and good abs to wear this puppy.
  4. In a hunt for a replacement for a skirt that I eventually did get clean (after about 15 attempts with every home remedy and skinny cleaning product) I found this soft leather black midi –length pencil skirt at Asos. This with that crop top, with and without a blazer is killer good!
  5. Similarly the PU leather pencil skirt that almost ended in the garbage after a transfer stain has now moved from summer to winter. I still think the pale blue looks great on somber days and paired with the grey sweater is a perfect mix of fun and sexy. Pencil skirts in leather (look) are for me as much as a staple as blue jeans are to some. I am eyeing this one from the H&M premium collection.
  6.  My most budget piece at 5.99 euros is the bright yellow lace skirt from Zara. Fits beautifully and adds a pop of bright in a colour I once despised but now realise suits me.
  7. The yellow skirt looks so good paired with the zipped blouse from Ann-Sofie Back. An eye-catching clutch and a pair of black pumps and evening here we come.
  8. Another piece from Ann-Sofie Back is the white velcro and neoprene skirt because I love winter whites. I’m thinking simple white tee, my white Alexander Wang tote and some minimal kicks. 
  9. Or for a bit more oomph this long sleeved scuba top with the white velcro skirt.
  10. Rachel Zoe cut-out booties finish off the winter white look with a stunning contrast in patent black leather.
  11. And mixing in a bit of the old, meaning bought and never worn, is a backless blue skater (forgotten in the pics) dress from &Other Stories. With a moder Chanel style jacket from Iro, boots and my ginormous floppy felt hat, it’s me on an Autumn day.
  12. And these, these are the boots. Also from the bought and never worn category. Knee high, black, soft as a baby’s butt calf leather, Miu Miu stiletto boots. I say diva on a mission coming through.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is the start of my winter closet. I just love skirts, dresses and of course heels! And maybe, just maybe I might post a few pics on my Instagram because selfies I can only do in miniature.

Corner fix..3, 2, 1 Lift off

I said it before and I'll say it again. Kids spaces are the most fun to do! So next on the update list a kid’s space, of course. Mika’s to be exact. This is his room before the update. Loved it before but the yellow cushion in the corner was always a placeholder for some extra fun. And this is his room after the fun update.
Instead of a workbench he got a rocket! The advantage of taking your time is learning the space and that goes for kids and adults. This corner they use for hide and seek so now they have a more imaginative spot to do so. A super cool shelf for some little boy treasures including the chalk stash. A hangbag (obsessed with these) for his books because when not in hide and seek mode the yellow cushion is our book reading spot. Now he can reach and pick the one he wants with ease and they no longer get knocked off the dresser during a changing. Just a few additions for a whole lot of smiles, giggles and happy from 'mijn schatjes'.

Bunnies, vampires & pirates

I don’t get many catalogues on my doormat but one that falls quite regularly is from H&M. I usually do a quick glance because online and app shopping is just so much easier and then plop it on the recycling pile. However I just had to share this idea from the kids and baby home section because I think the styling is fabulous. Ingenious in it’s creativity and cheapness. A sheet of ply, a bit of paint and you have a fun and cool headboard. 

And it’s with sheer force of will that I didn’t order the cool vampire, pirate and bunny themed accessories because I am totally digging these themes for my kids. They fit my kids to a T; Mika loves pirates & Zoe Isobel being a true girly girl loves pink, bunnies and cuteness.  Actually Zoe Isobel saw me checking it out on my phone and is waiting for a bunny basket as we speak, so I think I might be making a purchase very soon. And for that reason here are my favourites; 

  • Storage baskets because I'm a sucker for felt. Literally in every room of my home.
  • Bedding so cute it makes me want to get Mika a big kids bed asap. Two is old enough, right?
  • Some adorable wall storage for all the little hair bows and bracelets of a little Sofia princess. 
  • And the cutest cape ever because Zoe Isobel is still snuggled in a blanket in the middle of summer.








Moto head

As an inner speed-demon all I can say is that this light appeals to me. Daft punk meets Speeds meets Design. Honestly, if I had my way my home would be a museum of wacky, fun design pieces.
But even better than having the Moto wall lamp in my space, would be having it in my son’s space. I want this for Mika’s room because we are total 'peas in pod'. We spend a lot of time on the floor racing and crashing his cars together. What can I say? My Mika totally lives up to his name (famous race car driver) and my not so secret wish for speed, speed and more speed.
You’re never too young to love speed and never too young to love cool accessories. 1, 2, 3, Go!

I’m a sucker for prints. I’m a sucker for fun & quirky. I’m a sucker for cool kids spaces. Combine these together and what do you get? Some pretty awesome prints that are fun enough for kids and cool enough for adults. I say hip, fun & funky, baby!

Little cool kids

Personally I hold off on wearing winter gear for as long as possible and even then probably take it a bit too far. I'm the mom still wearing cutoffs and flip flops for the school run. However the same can't be said for my kids. Yep, I’m the mom saying ‘put on your coat, it’s cold out’. And since it starting getting chilly in August, it’s time to get starting on the winter basics, despite it going by to summer in September. I love dressing my two like stylish Parisians in brands like Emile Et Ida, Zadig & Voltaire and Jack n'a qu'un oeil. Smallable (online) and Gold Belgium (Antwerp) are my go-to's. Seriously, the best dressed babies they were, right down to the spit-up rag protecting said fabulous clothing. Or as worldly trendites in brands like Stella McCartney, Scotch RBelle, Mini Rodini, Shampoodle, Bobo Choses and personal fav Popupshop. All mixed with cheaper but cute pieces for stores such as Hema which is an absolute Dutch staple brand.
Yet the older Zoe Isobel and Mika get the more basic and less pricey their wardrobe. They prefer clothes with Hello Kitty Minnie Mouse on the front. Gasp, the shock, the horror. And kids, especially Zoe Isobel, grow like cabbage as they say in Dutch. So that more basic wardrobe will probably only see one or two extra unique pieces added in. But I’m not crying, with the coolness and cuteness on offer at Zara and H&M it’s still a fun, funky and hip wardrobe. Mika's wardrobe is all about super heroes, comics, lighting bolts and a tuxedo jacket. Perfect fit for his custom studded converse that match mom's. Zoe Isobel's is all about pink, pattern and print. Right down to her leopard tights which remind me of a favourite pair from Popupshop.





 

I order everything online because A. I have little free time during the day, B. shopping with kids this young is less then wonderful and most important C. my kids are way opinionated about their style. So we try at home, pick and send back the unwanted. Took several fittings for winter coat approval. Zoe Isobel was sold the moment she saw the bunny ears but Mika is still on the fence about option number five..
P.S. Half the wardrobe is at dads, plus they are a few summer pieces still on rotation that are not in the pics.

Raise the roof

I have been a fan of studio ROOF since they were KidsonRoof. I fell in love with the Casa Cabana and am seriously considering getting the deco version as a replacement playhouse in Zoe Isobel’s room. The rocket may or may not be taking up a large chunk of hall space while waiting to be moved to Mika’s  room. Because if one playhouse is good, then a playhouse and a rocket is kid’s play heaven. My kids desk is also from KidsonRoof and is simple and fun without being too childlike.
studio ROOF is not only a name change but also expanded into adult living about a year ago. A great move as I love the adult furniture as much as the kids. I was so lusting after their large beech table for my dining area but alas I needed the most budget of options to be able to furnish an entire second home in one go. But if you’re not completely cash-strapped this is still quite a budget-friendly table and made of solid beech. Basic, modern shape with a geometric twist with fluorescent lines. 
But if I could have one think from the collection it would have to  be the sofa! The arms are wide enough to use as side tables. The shape and material once again are simple and basic enough to be both striking yet non-imposing enough to accompany and not dominate your space. But the think that drives me crazy happy are the cushions. Love that they are different sizes and colours and even materials if you want. This sofa makes me happy. This brand makes me happy. Raise the roof for studio ROOF.
