Inspiring quotes

Sometimes you need a little reminder that even the beautiful have their 'thorns'. That does not diminish the beauty or the worth. To me, it's actually the other way around and makes me appreciate it all the more. So today, be beautiful, thorns and all.

Tour: The Suite

I doubted putting my bedroom up here because it’s my personal space. Just for me and so much so that my kids are technically not allowed up here. But because I love it and a tour of my house is not complete without the top third and the reason I picked this house above the others viewed, I figured why the heck not?

This space, minus having a free-standing bath, is pretty nigh on my dream bedroom. I love it, cherish it (really I scrub every little stain on my white carpeting like I’m being graded) and can’t wait to get back to it. It’s my office, dressing area, display area, work-out room and sleeping space. And because, yes size does count, it’s my biggest bedroom ever and so all those functions don’t feel claustrophobic. Sleeping in the eaves gives me a snuggled in feel and is ideal for free spirited living (wink)Plus with the deep windowsills it gives me so many little vignettes to display my treasures. And while a drastic clean-out has seen my shoe collection shrink, I still have plenty of favourites to display and no one else sensibilities to please. So out came the heels, because what’s a girly space without shoes? I took these pictures on the only dreary day in weeks, opened up the windows and fell in love..again. This is my master suite and I flipping love it, full stop!

P.S. Did you spot the odd man out? I added an extra 50 cm to my wardrobe and so the door and handle don't match. Changing that out and getting a super cheeky print from Therese Sennerholt are the only things left on the to-do/want list for this space.

The Girl with the golden bike

Forgive me the wink to one of my absolute favourite James Bond movies but I love, love, love James Bond. And I now love, love, Love Martone bikes. Sure, there are several cool, modern, minimal bike companies out there. But this, this is the first golden bike I have seen. In one go, this bike has cured me of my dislike of gold. The detailing is also amazing. The red chain, the integrated basket, the weaving on the handles. Sigh..my one true bike love.

This bike is also minimal maintenance and best of all no shifting! As a late biker, I still have a thing about shifting, so how great is it that this bike does it for you?

Plus no need to fret if you don't like gold. Martone has more scrumptious colour options. I love the pure white and stunning red almost as much as the gold. The other colours are no shrinking violets either. These bikes rock!

The Toolbox

OK, so I have a toolbox on my desk already and also from the same colour palette as this but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to get the Louisette toolbox from Hartô. So perfect and simple, minimal and functional, sleek yet colourful (no less than 5 fabulous colour choices).

I’m thinking I need this..for my kitchen kit, for my make-up, for anything I can think of that needs some gorgeous storage. And while I am doing that I will be putting Hârto on my favourites list. Their Marguerite single book wall mounting and Modeste mirror with built-in storage tray are also très chic.

A colourful modern family home

I love looking at beautiful homes online. It’s like peeking through windows without the peeping tom factor. I especially adore minimal white homes. Those are absolute favourite. But that is not obtainable for me and my life.

A. Two and three year olds come with sticky fingers, dirt-encrusted shoes and tons of colourful toys.
B. Shopping and home accessories addicts like me requires acres of storage and showing space which I just don't have.
C. Spontaneous onset of panic attacks at the sight of dirt and grime, which trust me you see on white.
And you now know why all white and super sharp is just not for me.

So when I see a home that is fun, family oriented, modern, colourful, yet with minimal lines, I get super excited. This is just such a house. The home is designed by INC Architecture & Design, who do actually what the name states..architecture and design. This home is titled the Bohemian apartment but I think it just hits the right balance between a modern base and lots of fun, colour and quirk. And what is a family home without amazing kids spaces of which this place is in no short supply. Go check out their site for more great pics.
