Scheduled..fall restyled, fighting fit, linear lights & funky sacks

Early onset old-age or just plain bone-tired but it slipped my mind to mentioned this week's schedule. So with bleary sleep-deprived eyes I decided to make a quickie schedule post. Good thing too because only then did I realise I forgot to finish one of the posts! Back to early old-age.

This week holds;
  • Despite the amazing weather that had me contemplating daisy dukes today, I have started getting my home ready for autumn.
  • I'm super excited that I am over my first hour of running and also because I decided to step it up a notch at my yoga class (cute dude alert..) here's to workout gear to get you noticed before, during and after the work-out.
  • I need multiple homes to kit out with all the minimal beauties out there, starting with linear lighting.
  • And because my kids are as fly as me and just as picky, a cool kids brand to keep there spaces fun and oh so hip.
That's this week in a nutshell. Have a great week.

Droppin it

Lounging in my bed at 11.33am on a Saturday, drinking coffee, internetting, being lazy and what am I thinking about? Shopping, nope. Groceries and errands, heck no. Breakfast, nah? DDW, maybe just a wee bit.

But if you guessed running, then you got it spot on! Lately more often than not I leave my trainers by the door. A total not-done for my OCD neatness but I need to feel they are waiting for me to throw em on, lace em up and get out that door. My last run of the week is on Sunday and my first on Wensday, the two days between are the longest of the week.

I had a cold this weekend and woke up with a stuffed head and blocked nose (I doubt anyone attained zen with my faucet nose and throat during power yoga) and stomach thing that made me race to the loo when I finally made to the training. But just to step on the track and I feel at home, where I need to be and I don't care if my nose is running and blood is pumping in my ears. It's pumping because I love it.

I often start out with a jacket, which ends up around my waist, followed by a knotted shirt or I just go in my super short shorts and short-sleeved tee, autumn chill or not. And while I am starting to relax in my running and just listen to the sounds around me, I always have my headset because I love to shake, rattle and roll, especially when I need an extra push.

I'm the crazy chick who is 'dropping it like it's hot' and 'slappin' and mouthing out indecent lyrics with foam build-up in the corners of my mouth while running. People look at me like I lost my marbles..a couple kilometres ago. Someone told me I probably look like I have Tourette syndrome..I probably do.

I love my running, well except the first few agonising minutes. I love the strength I feel. I love the satisfaction I get when I run. I love the power that zings through me during and after. I love the muscles I have. I love how fit, lean and sculpted I look when I look at me. Seriously, bounce a quarter!

I love my running for the high it gives me. I feel as high as a kite in what I can do, where I can go, how alive I feel, how smoking I look. I love that tomorrow when this post pops up, I will have done a 70 minute run. Drop it like it's hot!

Treasure home

Ooh, I stood forever staring at this product at the stand from Studio de Winkel while at the expo and had to physically restrain my hand from picking it up an taking it to the register. I love all things with the simple house shape of a child's drawing. I like pure materials like glass and wood, Throw in being a showcase for treasures and I’m sold.

Even now I feel a little flushed thinking how stellar this would look holding one or two delicate sculptures like the bunnies from Lise Lefebvre or Liesbet Milort and residing next to the equally delicate vase and bowl on my media cabinet. But equally good for housing jewelry or any other little treasures you want to showcase. From Rรคder and available in three sizes (15, 11 & 8cm) that look good on their own or great standing close together like a mini treasure village. Available at Studio de Winkel which has bumped it's way back up the list of favourites.

P.S. Here's what I did purchase at Studio de Winkel..and a coming post!

Minimalist rocking horse

I saw this rocking horse the other day while browsing online and was instantly smitten. After bikes and trikes, the rocking horse is the toy that I fall for again and again. This one is so minimal and pared back, making it every minimalist parent’s dream choice for their imaginative kids. It’s my dream choice.

A bit, okay a lot pricier than say the battery operated plush versions but like Kevin McCloud (Grand Designs) once stated ‘you pay a lot for no handles’. That generally goes for all minimal design including rocking horses. On the plus side there are few things as unbending as steel, so it should last a lifetime or at least a childhood. From Blooey (Remco Verhaagen, Stephen Boom) and available online in their shop or at Femkeidoshop where I spotted it.

Partly cloudy

With a Woonbeurs discount this vase arrived this week in the post.

  • The simplicity of the holder which is basically a drinking glass with heft.
  • The delicate and intricate design of the cloud.
  • The combined minimal effect of the two together.
  • The ability to make a sculptural flower arrangement with a few blooms.
What’s not to love? It’s the perfect way to showcase flowers.

I recommend getting flowers regularly. I purchase flowers almost every Saturday to end my weekly errand run on a flower-scented high. Flowers = instant happiness. And with a vase like this = instant master flower arrangement skills (with just a wee bit more practice). Flowers and a cup of joe from a fun cup like the ‘snout’ and it’s a good start to the day. From partly cloudy to sunny in the blink of a bloom.

A boxed Expo

A rather simple girl is called a ‘doos’ (literally translates to box) in Dutch. I have a box moment probably at least once a day. Also in regards to the Woonbeurs my inner box came out to play..I took a day off on to go, so as not to overcrowd my already tight weekends. ‘Doos’style, it was a week early so I ended up still squishing a visit in on a Saturday, after running, between errands and before the kids came at dinner time and including three hours of travel. Needless to say not a relaxing day but I still felt jazzed and excited after the visit.

The thing that struck me the most was the cheerfulness of it all. Lots of cheery pastels, lots of fun prints. Quirky products and inventive twists. The beautiful grouping of modernised Taiwanese lanterns are an amazing example. he red knitted light seems like a DIY gone very right. Even the classic stands and styling seemed chipper. Lots of greenery bringing life to interiors or interiors to life. It seemed all so light and fresh. Spring like with even with the weathers gods getting in on the act.

There were several inspiration stands. My favourite being 101Woonideeen which will sadly soon stop production. Sad because of the three magazines I subscribe to this one fits my style the best; fresh, light and fun. They’re stand was crisp white with bucket loads of white paint being offset with DIY pops of fun.

The next thing that popped was all the fun. Fun things like the Coqoon cushion, being such a symbol of modern life because which home doesn’t have a tablet floating around on the sofa? And everyone knows tablets are made for lounging.. So why not just go ahead and combine the two? The Flintstones style tree swings. The giant 3d printed Lego blocks. Kids fun made even more so.

Another great thing that stood out for me was sculptural design. The washbasin in the VT Wonen stand looks like recycled pulp paper but feels like smooth polished stone. T And then there were the sculptural hooks from Lex Pott for Hay. The 3d effect in combination with classic marble is so unexpected. And continuing the marble reign, this fab kitchen styling with the know infamous marble slab but then hexagonal.

And my favorites brand was Universo Positivo. The combination of wood and metal is modern without being strict or harsh. Don’t be surprised if you find one of they’re products working there way into my home in the near future.
