My closet

So I recently got going and started cleaning out my closet. Having put off this daunting task for quite some time, I finally got it done! .... At least for the majority of stuff, as the winter clothing still needs a bit more sorting.

Spread out over several evenings, I was able to tackle the closets in the master bedroom, my dressing table and extra shoe storage in Zoe Isobel's room. For the first time ever I have attempted the sorting of winter and summer clothes (was only able to part with the heaviest of materials, but it's a start).

Some stuff to be donated, some stuff to be sold, some stuff to be dumped, left me with a bit more breathing room. Alas, it is not as tidy anymore with the latest additions awaiting a slot...

Above from left to right; dresses skirts, pants, vests and sweaters. First drawer undies, tights and leggings. Second drawer fav. bags. Third pj's and loungewear. Bottom ballerina's and slippers.

The second closet from left to right; non-winter jackets, tops, shirts and blouses. Followed by about half of my shoes. Some of my favs are the top left grey boots which I purchased in Hong Kond and the cow print heels I purchased in Wisconsin.

Below my dressing table with a rocking mirror of equal proportion (not pictured) above it. First off is hygiene and hair care products, then make-up, followed by hair accessories (except hair bands, which reside in the bag drawer) and lastly extra jewelery/bracelets. All four storage containers on the shelf, as well as the little leather jewelry box (a memory from Florence) are for jewelry. I kind of have a tic for bracelets...and shoes. Followed in lesser degree by bags and clothes..

A little orchid now resides on the top as well, which seemed a touch bland. On the back of the necklace are the names of my kids, a special birthday gift from my hubby.

Method(s) to my madness; 1. all hangers are wooden and face the same direction. 2. Each article has a specific spot. 3. Full lenght mirror on either side of the cupboard. 4. A stylish hook to lay out the next day's outfit. 5. Laying out the next day's outfit (down to jewelry and hair accessories). Allowing me to make it out the door 15 minutes. That is rhyme & reason for keeping it neat. I dream of a larger space, where all my stuff and come together and have a humdinger of a party. In the meantime, help me keep the hope alive. What's your closet like?

Lovely little things

Diana Eng makes some lovely little things. I would happily have them all. I especially adore the coin purse and think a collection of her life sized ladybugs would look super cute with summer dresses. Or with her adoreable cut-out lace tops..

Hot Air

The eternal kid in me just had to post this lovely desk from Boys and Girls; a fun, flirty and innovative crew hailing from Dublin. Minimalist white, fun colors, raw wood and Jenga. Count me in. It makes me so break into a smile. I hope it does the same for you too.

Trends (that make you go yikes)

A trend can simply be defined as a development or movement. I try not to be a blind follower of what is current, however it is hard not to be influenced by the things around you. So my love of (almost) all things studded has grown. I adore fluor. I have come also to like yellow and orange, whereas a few years ago I quite despised bright colors. However some trends seems so repulsive, that they offend my personal sense of style. Here are a few that made me go humh..

The fanny pack also known as a bumbag; even studs can't make me love this!
When even the model is scratching her head, then it is time to let it go

Aztec printing; the nineties anyone?
Looking down to be cool, or hanging head in shame..

Ikat; makes me go egads, it's paint by numbers for toddlers
Wrong, wrong, wrong. The fit, the colors, the detailling. Blech

Tie-dye; school arts & crafts projects
Do not translate into clothes one should wear, .. when no longer in school

Grr, enough ranting. There are more that I find icky, tacky and unflattering like the unitard, but enough for now. To sum it up, I do not like anything that looks like 1992 (it is just to soon) or is a traditional print. But never say never, again.

Play area

After much deliberation and toing and froing, I have a better idea of how I would like the play area (indoors) to look. Well at least, which products I would like to furnish the space with. Exactly where everything should go may change a bit, but this is the basic idea.

The chair and pouf featured in earlier posts, as well as the storage box are already part of the space. The miffy lamp, cloud-shaped carpet and deskhouse are not. For the lamp and desk I have found good deals. I am pondering buying a simple (cheap) carpet and cutting a cloud shape in myself. And possibly dyeing it in the washing machine. My only doubt is if it will begin to unravel? Maybe just go for the finished article? But then again, I love a project.

I want to place the desk free-standing, with the carpet close-by but not directly underneath it. One side is dedicated to drawing, hence the coloring pencils in the chimney, with the chair for seating. The other side will have the fav books displayed on the ledge and the pouf for sitting. The storage box I want to extend with a second one along the wall to the right  of the desk, where the little used playpen now stands. The lamp is 80 cm high, so will stand solitaire in the corner or on the edge of one of the storage boxes.

The lego storage boxes will sit on the larger white storage boxes and can be added-on to if we get more lego. I have my eye on some Hello Kitty ones for Zoe Isobel's birthday. The sticker can be adjusted to your own specs, so I think it would look lovely on the broad wall directly behind the desk. It also comes with hooks, so can be used to hang stuff up, maybe some protective crafting aprons?

The drawing board I am a bit hesitant about, but I have a savings coupon for this fun & already well-priced Ikea classic. I was thinking of painting in in fluo pink or yellow for some pop.. of color.

Wedge out

If you know me, you know I love, love, love me some shoes..
If you love shoes, holla!!

After not having bought shoes, in gasp.. a year or more and wearing holes into my favorite ballerina flats, I bought my beloved studded biker boots which featured in a previous post. Soon after that followed a pair of replacement ballerinas (indispensable as cute and comfortable), followed later by two wedges. One open-toe suede pair and the following Ash Uranus fur-lined ones.

As you might have guessed, I have a thing for wedges. I love how they look. Plus they are a bit easier to walk on than thinner heels.

A clear-out was needed to gain some more space. Alas, due to the height of most of my (new) shoes, I still can't get them all into the cupboards. So, this will have to be it for now... But that does not I have to stop looking. In honor here my new two shoe love brands (next to Ash) & their wedges.
