Our space is starting to look more like home and less like a renovation project. While we are not quite there yet, the progress is giving me hope.or delusions of completion.Almost there, she said five months in a row.

What better way to stay motivated and get it finished, then to start decorating? Our home is quite formal with angles, mantles and sharp lines. To soften the aesthetic and add a bit of uptown funk, I am really into large-scale mirrors, especially in soft hues.

Favourites

I know, I know, we are not even halfway through February but hey, February is crunch time with three birthdays, valentines and all the rest, so I thought I'd get ahead. I usually fall in love seven times a week, so this is just some of my current favourites. Right now, I'm really into brass but with a modern and warm twist to match the look of our modernised 1907 beauty.

Modern Macrame

I'm the first to admit being anything but adventurous with my walls. I have three pieces of art by the same artist, all on white walls. The idea of texture really appeals to me and would be a welcome change. Something with height (hello, almost 4 metre ceilings) and drama but still allowing all the details of our home to show true. Shockingly, I think these macrame-inspired wall hangings by Milla Novo might be just the thing. I never thought the word macrame would fill me with anything but dread but these look good. They look really good. In fact good enough to have me now lusting after macrame..

Power pose

Artistry meets practicality. Every piece from Momoko Higashifushimi is equally beautiful in its simplicity but it is the large scale power mirror that makes me skip a beat. I am that neurotic chick that hurries to class to get exactly that spot in the mirror where I'm not stuck in the seam of two fused pieces and can see myself from crown to tip but most importantly while seeing no one else. I need to focus on ..sorry not sorry.. just my own movements and poses.

So how I long to have a space and ditto equipment at home to focus on just finding some quiet in my time alone. This mirror is the perfect size for just that. Coming with a built-in holder, if that is your jazz. For me, though, it's just the mirror and my mat. And the best part, when I'm all done and perfectly zen this piece still looks pretty darned good. Dare I say it is one stunning mirror.

Seat with a view

Just one quick pic. I saw this house over on Est and was blown away by all the beautifully crafted spots to drink in the views. This one however is my favourite. Combining both my desires for a peaceful view and a sunny spot to curl up, read a book and maybe take a few naps..

Lolo

I have an obsession with vases. My collection has taken over both the linen closet and the office. Most of the collection is ceramics, especially in white, because a girl can never have enough white ceramic vases.. And then I saw an image for the Lolo vase from By Lassen and I knew I needed to make the switch to lacquered metal. I originally saw and wanted it in black, so don't worry because it's equally as good in either colour. The inner grid even helps to bring out the inner Ikebana goddess in the most black thumbed of flower arrangers. And luckily it is just in time for spring!

Solar

Way back when I blogged my excitement about the Ellum solar light from Feltmark. I completely forgot about them till I received my order a couple of weeks ago! They are as beautiful as their pictures. The magnet for attaching them are also surprisingly strong. All in all I really like these. The only problem? We've since moved and no longer need additional lighting in the hallway. So now I think these would be perfect for highlighting some art. Because they're way too gorgeous for just lighting the path to the loo..

Statement vase

Slightly obsessed (what's new?) with scoping out beautiful pieces. Right now I have a major thing for large, transparent glass vases. I would love a big signature piece but with kids and clumsy moms afoot, I need options...that span the range between 'build a cage around that puppy' to 'easily replaceable'. And this little list is just that!

Seeming to defy equilibrium is the exquisite Ammo vase by Jean Marc Gady. The Echasse vase designed by Menu is on sale now and a good family-budget friendly version is the new Berakna vase from Ikea.

Milo, baby

Still loving the urban green vibe but I like my green more styled than wild. The look of green under glass is my favourite and so this miniature urban greenhouse is the perfect thing for a shot of green indoors. Also available in a larger size with equally gorgeous wooden bowl.

The simple things...

It's been church mouse quiet here, hasn't it? Maybe January really is the most depressing month of the year, because I've had an extreme case of the blahs. But it is finally February! So today I just want to share the first beautiful thing that inspired me this year. This marble tray is beyond simple but I can't stop looking at if for the fluidity of the form.

Here's to a great month! When life gives you lemons..., get a pretty tray for them.

The brass calendar

I've been searching for a calendar for ages. Something functional to hold all the family's appointments that I never seem to remember but at the same time good-looking to prevent me stashing it out of sight after a week..

Needless to say, I pretty much starting salivating the moment I saw this brass mounted calendar with thumbscrews by Dry Things. It doesn't get much more minimalist than this. A brass sheet, simple black and white typography numbers and screws. This calendar and the square log are number one on my wish list and firmly cement my new-found love of both the Dry Things studio love and brass!

Kokoro

Dutch Design week sadly was the same week as our holiday so I didn't get to see much. In the short time we were there, this storage block made the most impact. I love the how the Kokoro takes such a simple, standard shape was turned into something elegant and sculptural. An absolute winner, showcasing the beauty of the wood and the work of an artisan. By Rene Siebum, whose series of wardrobes is still a love of mine.

Designer box

Design lovers can be amazingly difficult to shop from. Picky, fussy and particular come to mind. Or am I just thinking of myself because after unwrapping I'm often secretly thinking really? And yet I think a gift card is as impersonal as it gets.

In comes Designer box, which I recently stumbled across while searching for new designers. I love the idea of getting a monthly dose of design. You can choose a subscription for a specific duration and every month your unique piece arrives beautifully packaged.

Would it be wrong of me to gift myself a trial run for Christmas?

Hide Side

We're back from our holiday and I hope to get back into the swing of blogging this week. I figured to start I'd combine interior love with Holloween. The Hide Side table from Hem is a sleek, modern take on side tables and reminds me of a minimal componibili. The colours, especially the rusty red, are perfect but since it's a spooktastic day today, it's got to be orange.

Dinner bell

I'm a sucker for home decor. Beautiful products that add fun without being throwaway. So I pretty much love every single piece by Pat Kim. The racetrack mirror, inspired by my boys, for us girls, would be perfect for last minute checks.

But it's the dinner bell that has me smiling. How amazing, to ring this instead of screeching "go wash your hands and get your butt to the table"? Hung on the kitchen wall for instant access, this puppy would be out for breakfast, lunch and dinner..

Edge

I'm a sucker for new creative designs. So of course I'm loving pretty much everything from Nyova, especially the Edge lighting. I love the simplicity of the shape most but the idea of leaving cables behind is almost as appealing. Minimal, functional lighting at it's best.

Pe

Pe is for purist, minimal design. The suspended ceiling bar coatrack is nothing new. There are plenty of variations and options available. However the Pe coatrack by Florain Saul takes it that much further. The rounded edges, adjustable belts and integrated circuit lends it an understated look that would fit pretty much any interior.

Firestarter

I was browsing through the Etsy shop of George and Willy, drooling over the daily roller for groceries and the round sign for a bit of in punch in the hallway when I saw this fire starting kit.
I know, I know, it's almost June, but I can't help it. I have fires, Christmas and marshmallows roasting on the brain. Yes, my brain is a frightfully delightful but oddball kind of place...

But back to the fire starter. Totally perfect. I mean, seriously, do you see me with a kindling and paper? I'm scared every time I light a candle! This kit is seriously easy and not to forget aesthetically pleasing. Light stone. Place stone in fireplace. Bob's your uncle.

Light my way

The Ellum Solar is not the first and probably won't be the last Kickstarter purchase but it is the one I'm most looking forward to receiving. I have been searching for a better alternative to leaving the lights on in the hall as I'm still a kid at heart..otherwise known as nighttime anguish. 

But aside from the obvious mental issues this is perfect for adding just the right amount, right where you need it. The fact that it attaches and detaches with ease, is solar powered and activated by motion, made me click  it home. The hardest part? Deciding between walnut or maple.

Off the grid

Replacing the old laundry basket a couple weeks ago turned into a mini bathroom update. It started with the large grid basket, which was followed by several smaller ones because this household produces laundry like breaths and I have no desire to do laundry daily. 

I then decided to get searching for the biggest bathmat I could find because the individual ones kept getting moved around like stepping stones because not even a pinkie toe of my daughter's must feel cold tile in the morning. I then moved the bench in because I have a bad back and wiggly, squirmy kids..okay, okay I'm kind of lazy. The concrete knob came in to replace the mini shelf said wigglers kept bumping their heads on.
