Glassworks

An unlikely thing has happened.. I started having warm feelings for my home again. Weird, because just a couple weeks ago it was still very much "I hate you so much right now". Somehow, being forced to be home, with all of the family, has made me realize how much we have accomplished and reminded me how much wonder this old beauty holds. And so I want to dress her up, because every grand dame needs jewelry...

Favourites

I know, I know, we are not even halfway through February but hey, February is crunch time with three birthdays, valentines and all the rest, so I thought I'd get ahead. I usually fall in love seven times a week, so this is just some of my current favourites. Right now, I'm really into brass but with a modern and warm twist to match the look of our modernised 1907 beauty.

Mediterannea floor lamp, brass wall hook, Arc globe.

Lolo

I have an obsession with vases. My collection has taken over both the linen closet and the office. Most of the collection is ceramics, especially in white, because a girl can never have enough white ceramic vases.. And then I saw an image for the Lolo vase from By Lassen and I knew I needed to make the switch to lacquered metal. I originally saw and wanted it in black, so don't worry because it's equally as good in either colour. The inner grid even helps to bring out the inner Ikebana goddess in the most black thumbed of flower arrangers. And luckily it is just in time for spring!

Autumn light

Fall, is for some a moment of despair at the passing of summer. Me? I'm giddy with delight at the prospect of darker days, knits, blankets and candles. I'm in love with the Fem holder from Onshus. I see this with burnt colours for fall all the way through to Christmas..which I am already counting down to. Finally a candelabra that is large enough to make an impact on our ginormous dining table without looking like a Viking table setting. Can you say finally found the light?. Pun intended!

How did it go from summer to fall so quickly? I felt like it barely arrived much less settled in. Anyhoo, I'm really excited about the fall. We find out the baby's sex next week (and no we will not be sharing) and we are dead busy making plans for the future. But some of the things I am looking forward to the most are the little things. Lighting the fire again, pulling out the cushions and blankets, making everything warm and cosy and just enjoying mealtime. I'm in love with this autumn Food & Friends collection from H&M. The plates, that remind so much of Menu's New Norm are on my list, as well as the gorgeous earth-tone pitcher and ebony board

I was swooning over the brass and marble holders from Yield when I saw the Petra collection.  Natural stone, geometric shapes and precious metals. I've been looking for a simple but unique necklace that is not too trendy or overpowering. These pieces add just enough interest to make a subtle impact. Pictured is my summer fashion musthave, the Menorca necklace.

Statement vase

Slightly obsessed (what's new?) with scoping out beautiful pieces. Right now I have a major thing for large, transparent glass vases. I would love a big signature piece but with kids and clumsy moms afoot, I need options...that span the range between 'build a cage around that puppy' to 'easily replaceable'. And this little list is just that!

Seeming to defy equilibrium is the exquisite Ammo vase by Jean Marc Gady. The Echasse vase designed by Menu is on sale now and a good family-budget friendly version is the new Berakna vase from Ikea.

Modern brass candleholder

I'm obsessed with the circle candle holder by Ferm Living. It's the perfect blend of maximalist minimalism that I covet. Not loving the price quite as much. So guess how happy (very happy) I was to find a budget-friendly version at Sissy-Boy. And with even more candles, it's bound to make even the most minimal table setting look fabulous.

Shopping a minimalist kids Christmas

Designedlifeblog.blogspot.com Shopping a minimalist kids Christmas

My kids first, second and third most wished for gifts are Lego, Lego and more Lego. I swear it's that or nothing this year. But a mom can dream and so here are my most wished for kids gifts. No batteries or garish colours. Just add imagination...

Galaxy globe mobile, puzzlehead brainteaser, quote wall decoration, peach swinger and ladders game.

Winter is coming

It's cold, baby! On the ride to school we were discussing what three degrees means. For me, it means snuggle up and bunker down time. My furry slippers only leave my feet to shower and you risk sitting on someone as we are all permanently hidden under a blanket on the sofa. All jokes aside, it also means cozying up our home. I burn candles every night, added more and especially softer cushions and am in the process of making home holiday ready. For me, it's all about winter warmth..

Scented candle from Brooklyn candle studio, stoneware holders from Marimekko, birch candles from Arhaus, velvet cushion from H&M, reflection tealight holder from Piet Moodshop and chunky knit blanket from The Flying Lambau.

Some good resources to check out, from both sides of the pond include Arhaus, H&M and Pinterest

Designer box

Design lovers can be amazingly difficult to shop from. Picky, fussy and particular come to mind. Or am I just thinking of myself because after unwrapping I'm often secretly thinking really? And yet I think a gift card is as impersonal as it gets.

In comes Designer box, which I recently stumbled across while searching for new designers. I love the idea of getting a monthly dose of design. You can choose a subscription for a specific duration and every month your unique piece arrives beautifully packaged.

Would it be wrong of me to gift myself a trial run for Christmas?

You've got mail...

Designedlifeblog.blogspot.com You've got mail

As you've probably noticed, posts are few and far between as well as shorter. Mea culpa. In my defense all I can say is that I underestimated the effort needed to move house. At the moment any free space in my head, much less in my day, is split between going on holiday next week and getting our home shipshape.

Every space has a various assortment of things still needing to be hung, placed or stored. The outdoor space is no exception. Add to that the need to finish it off with some much needed detailing. I have been searching for a mailbox that is minimal and stylish and so not stainless steel, which is the norm for 'modern' here in the Netherlands. An Etsy search finally shed some light on the matter. Steel, walnut and accoya, yes please!

Dark tones

Designedlifeblog.blogspot.com dark tones

Ah, the sound of silence. The trees, the flowers, the birds are what I see when I look out the windows now. Thoug, we're not nearly there with getting everything set-up and feeling like home, it's the quiet here that inspired some much needed blogging downtime.

Right now figuring out what to do with the space, plus actually getting it done, has given me a few nights of insomnia. What better medicine than to work on my dark and earthy home wishlist? EM table by Jean Prouve, Normann Copenhagen form barstoolgrow pot from Menu and muffin lamp by Brokis.

Unreformed shopaholic on holiday means a amazing amount of time is spent tracking down the best shopping spots. That includes plenty of tiny, individual boutiques but also hitting up a high-street store or two. My favorite purchase are these hair accessories from &Other Stories.. though I might not actually use them for my hair.

Fringe

I'm sorry but Zara is crazy good at making me long to over stuff my wardrobe. This top is so good. I love the flap, the asymmetric cut-out, the wispy texture, the higher neckline and of course the chunky zip hardware. Soft means clean lines, perfect.

Fashion wishlist!

designedlifeblog.blogspot.com fashion wishlist!

What of the the things I hear most when I'm slightly distracted on my phone is "you're shopping aren't you?" I try to defend myself with the trusty "I'm just looking". Here's is what I'm just looking at now...

This smooth raw-edge draped skirt from Cos has been on my mind for weeks. Same goes for the perfect accessories for the coming autumn winds; the felt hat with a twist with the snake chain. From Lanvin. I hate to admit but Zara is a go-to for cool, affordable fashions. Current favourites; stone leather culottes yes please and the oversized blouse with split back for effortless cool. Loving white trainers and these toecap snakeskin trainers by Adidas are nigh on perfect.

posted about my love for Ryan Storer and now I want to show you.

The good thing about bouts of insomnia is being awake at 3am during sale season. The same brands and sizes that are sold out during the day, magically reappear in the ungodly hours. Such was the case with this ring.

It was dubbed a tie pin and I'll go with that. I love the irregular shape which lends this noticeable piece a minimal and fluid line. So eye-catching you needn't wear any other accessories.

An impromptu post because I did not wake up that morning planning to photograph myself..

And to be honest, I'm also far from a fan of my profile but I like these tiny quartz studs so much, I took the plunge. I did a quick lashing of lipstick but for the rest it's just me at home. In other words no make-up skin and messy hair knot. But the studs are still bang on, Not too fussy or predictable. I love the delicate irregularity so much, I haven't taken them out since.

Ryan Storer; minimalist statement jewellery

designedlifeblog.blogspot.com ryan storer

I'm on a freakin jewelry high of late but there are just so many amazing artisans out there that I keep stumbling on more pieces I need to have, asap!

The pieces by Ryan Storer are of a clean aesthetic but with an edge. Understated yet instantly noticeable. Bold and complementary. The perfect minimalist statement piece.
