Small space, big inspiration

A while back Apartment Therapy held their annual small cool contest. When I saw this space, I thought it by far the best space I've seen recently, regardless of size and maybe even ever. Actually I think it was one of the winners. It is bursting with personality, modernity and excitement without being overwhelming. No small feat to be sure. I squirreled it away immediately in my inspiration folder and thought of it again yesterday while working on Zoe Isobel third birthday surprise. I would so love to live in Singapore in this space.. if not for the reality of kids. The shopping, the food, this space... aah.

Bunking

My kids have their own rooms, but this tree house inspired bed from Aalto Aalto has me contemplating making them share a room. The Maja is a prototype which has me begging for it to go into production (with higher sides). The beds can be place in the traditional way with the second bed directly above each the first, but I prefer having them at odds. A bit "speelser'', no?

Sparkle...

I saw this print at Haikje's blog (on my favorites blog list) and it made me stop and think and then smile. It is very much a logo for how I feel at the minute. When I feel comfortable within and outside of myself I feel unique and powerful! I feel great about being quirky, different, weird and geeky. I am me and that is pretty damn awesome. If the print (along with one of the window foils) was available in her store I would so get it for my workspace, as it is sometimes incredibly easy to want to emulate the 'normal' and dullen.

... a diamond!

Work hard, play harder

Busy as a bee, that’s me. Forever changing, updating and trying new things. So how happy am I to have a semi-valid reason to change things up. That reason being kids! Growing up means changing needs, which to me means an adapting and changing home. Here are a few pic’s of the kid friendlier living space. Technically always kid friendly, but the now easily-accessible toys with quick adult clean-up properties (just throw ‘em in a basket) and moving the playhouse out of the line of sight and into a bonafide kids area does wonders for kids and adults alike.

I posted earlier about plans for this space including dream items. One of the things that bit the dust was the Momoll Lili play kitchen. While I still adore it, it was just too much in comparison to the Ikea Duktig which has actual working lights under the cook plate and from which my daughter has to be pried free every time we visit the store. It is an absolute hit with both kids. And how stinking cute is the suitcase cushion from Woouf. Hopefully the magnetic drawing board and desk will get used more when they are wee bit older. I plan to move the desk out into the middle when Mika is old enough to have his very own kids design chair. A mini Panton, anyone? Yea, another potential re-jig!

It's weekend baby!

Weekend. Few words make you relax like the sound of weekend. This weekend I was looking forward to spending time in my kitchen and munching on the resulting sweet (and savory) treats.

Pineapple of the grill is the best way to round off a barbecue and finally I too have something to eat whilst the rest of the family is polishing off their after-dinner yogurt (aka pap), except Mika ate my entire portion. Oh well, it's the thought that counts. Have a great weekend!

Sunny side

A posting on an egg. But wait it 's more than an egg. Can you guess what it is? It's a..

Playmat. The Sunny side up playmate from Leah Dumigan for Momastore. The yoke is raised and padded and can be used as a headrest, while the white has cellophane inside that is supposed to crackle like an egg frying. Makes me wish my kids were still small enough to need a playmat and less gung-ho to be able to stay on it.
