Little art gallery

In a previous post about the blank space above the sofa titled 'Ponderings of a sofa', I wrote about my  wish to do something with that empty space... actually there were a couple of previous tries that did not stick. Here is how it is looking now...

With a old Bob Dylan print re-framed with an adjusted passe-partout Ödby frame from Ikea, two Japan-inspired prints from Fab in custom frames from zelfinlijsten, wall of flame candle holders from Frederik Roijé (also via Fab) and hanging vase from Sofie Boonman.

Upon seeing the pictures I find that the space on the left looks underutilised (as well as the speakers being quite fugly). A hanging lamp could be good but since I always (race to) sit on the right that idea got the boot. Below are some super cute decorative options. Help me out, please? Decisions are not my strong point.

Corniche shelves from Vitra. Picture it frame from Hay. Third option is the most super shelving made of resin which I scooped at You Are Here in town the other day. A small one in pink with a circular dip and a larger white one with three built in tubes for flowers (designer unknown to me, so no pic).

Spring blooms

Winter seemed extra long and extra gray and bleak, which I was okay with till about April. Then it hit like a ton of bricks; I was so, so, so over the palette of constant concrete gray. To cheer myself up ... I got some flowers. I still enjoying arranging anew once a week, despite the fact that spring is now truly in the air.

The tulips finally blossomed and are from the local supermarket. The simple glass vase I got free when I purchased some art supplies for Zoe Isobel. I added some bark I kept from a bouquet I made ages ago.

The vase I've had for ages and was a must-have after seeing it at the Woonbeurs. I searched and searched but could not find it online, so made the trip to Pols Potten in Amsterdam to get it. Endless possibilities, but now kind of mohawy. Double take the vase on the right, a birthday gift from my sis; spilt personality in a vase. Too frigging cute, especially with a magnolia branch and ever-changing flower exposition.

Marika Giacinti

So a couple weeks ago when I got to spend a day out with the hubbie and no kids (yea!) I got, among others, this super cute le petit rose cushion at Friday Next. I immediately fell in love with the rabbit-ish cuteness of it and the color blocking (one side is yellow, the other light pink). Zoe Isobel saw it and tried to commandeer it for her bed.

The cushion is part of a super cute pompon line. All available online from the designer herself. Check them out here.

Hot rod

I keep a digital map of projects and photo's that inspire me. This is one of those ideas that totally grabs my imagination. Can you guess what it is? And more importantly what is was used for?

Dowels, little wooded rods kind of like the sort used in put-it-together Swdish furniture or speciality cakes. These were used by Merge Architects to create an amazing wall with built-in shelving and concealing a bathroom door. Images by Dwell.

Reminds me of the Kwan bookcase from Studio Ditte as well as some older styling pics from Marijke Schipper who I think makes lovely, liveable interiors. Come to think of it what with the Muuto Dots in Zoe Isobel's room, I guess you could say I have a bit of a thing with little round wooden things on walls.

Book club

Books, books and more books. How I love them so. It is about the only thing where I prefer analog to digital. And since receiving some book gift certificates for my birthday, I deem it time to start reading books again. Here are a few on my shortlist.

1. Made by yourself from Peter Fehrentz. In German so solely eye-candy. 2. Classic Snacks Made from Scratch by Casey Barber. Junk food at it's best. 3. A Place called Home by Jason Grant. That bench's paint job got my hello.

Upscale Lego

Slowly but surely our home is filling up with... lego blocks. Standard lego, Hello Kitty lego, Dora the explorer lego and giant lego storage blocks. We even had our first lego related accident today. Don't get me wrong they are great fun for baby (except for that wee accident), toddler and adults alike. But when I saw these wooded block sets in cherry, birch and maple from Mokulock, I just about passed out as I love wooden toys.

They are a bit too small for the kids at the moment as Mika would undoubtedly pop a couple in his mouth and Zoe Isobel would probably throw them in the garbage if building became frustrating. I can however dream of less plastic fantastic and more wood-the-way-to go. Or perhaps as an ode on a shelf, high, high above the kiddie grasp line?
