Schedule

This week is bit smaller because there are just not enough hours in the day and I seem to have transformed into a tortoise which is not exactly what I was hoping for..
  • Since Monday is my off-day, at least from my paid job, I figured why not gloat a bit over my weekly three-day weekend with another slice of pie..
  • I showed you my hot & humid tropicale bathroom here and will be showing you another greened-up space soon but in the meantime I’m so burning with green fever my eye has headed outdoors..
  • The indoor gym is now officially open. Watch your step, keep your balance..
The picture is of last week's centrepiece. Secretly quite proud, I decided to throw caution to the wind and pick whatever blooms caught my fancy and lo and behold my favourite combo ever!

Printed love

I had a different post scheduled but sometimes things just don’t go your way, meaning post unfinished..
But that’s okay, I’m getting better with gong with the flow. Earlier this week I was banging my head against the wall and repeating the mantra “no more Valentines ads and wishlists!”And then I realized it doesn’t have to be cheesy, over the top or red (but oh how I love a red lip, let me count the ways). Here’s to love in it’s essence, pure.

The print is from the Mess Project with wording from Kiki Dimoula and also available in black.

A few of my favourite things

I used to make a series titled “Friday favs” and this is pretty much similar to that, except not necessarily a weekly recurring post. Just a look at what caught my eye..

Honestly knits are often too warm and spring is just around the corner, at least in my mind, but that does not stop me from falling for this cashmere piece especially because I used to have a major thing for off-the-shoulder. Another love but that has yet to fade..neoprene and zips. Bam, put the two together I'm sold.

I love doodahs, knickknacks, tchotchke or any other name for cute little displayable bits and bobs. How lush are these wood and concrete decorative paperweights? And for somewhere fancy to place your smallest treasure, this marble cube, please! The best way to accentuate any treasure, small or large, is lighting. How fantastic is this copper beauty. The simplicity, robust materials, combined function, what's not to love?

And what to adorn the knits and sit pretty on the marble cube? A perfectly formed bit of jewellery disguised as fun pushpin brooches. Check out the makers website for more amazing and even mind-boggling brooch designs. How cool are these clustered on the lapel of a blazer or suit jacket. I say bring some fun to the boardroom already..

Start, stop, moo-ve

I shared a peek at the contents of my wardrobe with my new denim and happiest piece. It was so much fun I decided to show you more of what those cupboards hold.

Here are my leather pants. Loose fit, literally one of the ones I wrote about here. I actually like wearing them with heels for contrast to the sporty nature but I wanted to do something more casual here. I have been wanting a pair of trainers that are cool enough as to not feel like my running gear. However much I love running, outside a run I want more shoe, less sports. I loved and still love the Adidas Stan Smith pony sneaks but alas when sale time rolled around my size was nowhere to be found. Flatforms are all over the place but I typically dislike that style. I love the Acne Adriana trainers especially in metallic, because come on they have friggin smiley computer faces on them, but let’s be honest I don’t wear sneakers often enough to justify that price tag. Then Zara came out with this cross up between the two and I fell in love. Higher than my vans but not so much that I feel like I stepped back in time and need to go to a rave and the words with eclamation point make me chuckle.

A cool textural sweater (pictured is my fav anything but boring black Avelon fusion), leather joggers and cool sneaks and not only am I still fly (does anybody say that anymore) but I don’t have to worry about Dutch sidewalks and surfaces..cobblestones have wrecked enough of my shoes and left me embarrassingly plucking my stuck shoe out to replace on my bare foot.

Hot & Humid

Like I said, the updates are not quite done (they never really are). I have only been living in my home for nine months and so while definitely livable, it’s still in the finishing phase. The phase were I make it our home, with our personality stamped on top of a home that fits our live. I say ours because this update is inspired by my adorable daughter. She loves minimal clothing at home (I have no idea where she got that from..) but yet will move the bathmat from basin to shower to loo to back again. I realised recently I do exactly the same. Like mother, like daughter and like daughter like mother. And then the littlest one pretty much jumps from the shower to the mat to my arms because "it’s cold", "the floor is cold" and "I'm cold" or I’m tightly twisted around his cute little finger.. Either way, time for a fix.

I have yet to see a giant bathmat and putting in a rug not meant to dry quickly is just not an option. What’s left.. multiple bath mats. But how to make that look like something besides a shabby attempt at practicality? Layer those suckers and give the space a fresh take on nonchalant bohemian with a window full of plants.

I was originally planning to velcro the mats together but I like the looser, more casual effect and being able to easily change it up. Plus no sewing. Just simple light mats, but all with a different textural pattern and one stand-out mat in yellow because it is such a happy, fun colour. Coincidentally it turns out that a few of the orchid pots from storage are yellow. I guess yellow is my happy colour. The mats spread out across the floor like tetris blocks making cold winter feet a thing of the past.

I moved my orchids to the windowsill because the humidity of the bathroom is the perfect spot for these tropical beauties. I added in a few bits of green so there is more to look at then just sprouts. The heat and greenery makes me feel like I’m finally on holiday in a lush, tropical locale. And if I squint while taking a hot shower, it feels like I have a tropical outdoor shower in the middle of winter or at least a tropical greenhouse.

Schedule

  • A practical, lush and fun update of the most humid spot in the house.
  • Blessing or curse, replacing your wardrobe bit by bit? When it’s this fun, I say moo-ve over old..
  • Instead of just showcasing one original and creative design, why not share a few of my favourite things?
  • Long names call for large cards? Nope, long names call for small cards with the cool factor.

After a couple months of headache–inducing rides and topped of with a crash and no car at all, I finally got a new ride and so now I’m even happier with my throw-down spot otherwise know as the hall. Hanging up my cool leather keyringand my warm as two baby lambs ginormous wool and leather shawl from StudioRUIG means I'm home and there is no place I rather be..
